IE's Role and Responsibility
Industrial engineering is an engineering profession that is concerned with the optimization of complex processes, systems, or organizations by developing, improving, and implementing integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, and equipment. Industrial engineering is central to manufacturing operations [1]. This profession is concerned with optimizing cost as well as maximizing productivity with quality. The garment industry realized the importance of this department long ago and implemented it, which is now playing an important role in reducing costs. Here we are trying to write down the roles and responsibilities of an IE for different positions in a company.
A. IE
JOB DESCRIPTION:

Ensure maximum utilization of man-machine and
materials
2)
Cost reduction by eliminating waste and nonvalue-added
operation
3)
Plan Review, analysis, and propose the best to
achieve maximum productivity
4)
Bottleneck analysis and line balancing
5)
Paper layout analysis and propose the best
balancing layout
6)
Supervisor training and operator up-skilling
7)
NPT analysis and action plan to reduce NPT
8)
5S implementation to keep the best housekeeping
9)
Work study (Method study, Motion study, Time
study, and Production study)
10)
Work simplification and process development
11)
Maintaining all reports in different sections
B. IE
Daily activities:
1) Line-wise operator balancing, checking WIP, and
ensuring finishing accessories
2)
Daily morning meeting, the target set up, and
discussion about target vs achievement
3)
Bottleneck analysis and solution
4)
Keep records on daily floor problems and CAP
5)
Checking paper layout and discussing with the OB team
if any discrepancy found
6)
Daily follow-up line average achievements and CM
7)
Special operation trains up for new layout
8)
Keep records of daily production and relevant
data

Activities Weekly:

Analysis of weekly estimated Changeover
2)
Weekly machine budget
3)
Analysis of critical operations and training of
operators to achieve maximum output
4)
Training and upskilling supervisor
D. IE
Activities Monthly:
1)
Monthly Plan versus achievements
2)
Analysis of OT and Plan to reduce OT
3)
Analysis of the reason behind target/CM
failure and making CAP
4)
Process simplification by using modern tools and
techniques
E. IE
Activities (Yearly):
1)
Set up a new strategy for a production system
2)
Review KPIs and Goals
F. IE
